Concussion and Chiropractic

Within the last ten years, we have made great advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Concussions. Research completed by the National Football League has led to advancements in determining the mechanism of the Concussion injury and to advancement in treatment protocols. Over the years many Concussions were routinely missed in the ER, as the doctors there were making judgments based on information they possessed at the time. We now know from current research that knowledge was lacking. In other words, the information we all learned in medical schools regarding concussion in the past was deficient according to today’s research. We have the NFL to thank for much of this new information in the detection and treatment of Concussion.

Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) is a common result of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and is a symptom complex that includes headache, dizziness, memory loss, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. Often these symptoms are experienced after a car accident with a whiplash injury. Loss of consciousness does not have to occur for PCS to develop. The direct impact of the head does not have to be involved in the accident injury to result in a PCS. Thirty to 80 percent of patients with mild to moderate brain injury will experience some symptoms of PCS. Immediate diagnosis and treatment of this condition are essential for long term recovery. Our team of caring professionals will be able to diagnose and treat your whiplash and concussion helping you to avoid the long term impact a concussion can have on your brain and body.
